Home Again

Well, after squeezing everything we possibly could into one last day in Bangkok (including a final, nail-biting taxi ride with a one-eyed elderly driver), we boarded our 1:40 am flight to Seoul. We left the 90+ degree heat of Thailand to emerge 6 hours later to the snow and 19 degree temp. of Korea. Having a 9 hour layover in Seoul, we were able to set up a tour of the city, which proved to be fantastic. After visiting the Old Palace, National Museum, and shopping districts, we headed back to the airport for the 10 hour flight back to Seattle and the end of our extended 'holiday'. Our friends Bobby and Alasia had us over for a sushi rolling and sake party with some other good friends. It was a blast, a great welcome home for Chandler and I.
Now we are home in Bellingham. Our sleep patterns being completely turned upside down, we are taking it easy for a few days before trying to start our lives again. Being home in our own space is very strange, no daily chore of packing up the backpack or looking for a train/bus schedule. I imagine it will take some adjustment to be back in this 'foreign' setting.
Words hardly can describe how fortunate we feel to have been able to take a trip like this. We have met some wonderful people and witnessed some spectacular events in remarkable lands. So many moments to hold onto and remember fondly.
Most of all, we would like to remember daily how much we have here compared to others, and how easy our daily lives are in comparison. Brushing my teeth the other day, instinct lead me to seek out my water bottle until I remembered that the tap water was safe enough to drink. Everyday conveniences we take for granted are not abundant worldwide. This is the lesson we hope sticks for us.

We have many more pictures we will share soon, so feel free to check back often. Love to all,
Michael and Chandler

Our last week of travel

We are in the last portion of our trip, and the reality of our flight home on Jan. 14 is sinking in. We were actually scheduled to leave Thailand on Jan 4th, but were able to extend the trip without any fees from AirAsia. We just are not ready to be done!
After Laos we travelled to Khao Yai National Park NE of Bangkok where we stayed with Greenleaf Guesthouse/Tours. There, we were shown this beautiful area by Nom, Lek, Joe, and Birdman, the family running the tour. Very friendly, knowledgeable folks who really took great care of us.
After a stop in Bangkok for New Year's we headed south and after a very brief stop in Phuket, we arrived on Koh Samui. Thailand's second biggest island has been wonderful. We are staying in the old fishing village of Bo Phut and soaking up the last of the sun. Last night at the local pub we were entertained by a French Elvis impersonator (think BIG Elvis) in an Irish bar on Koh Samui, Thailand. Wild!
Tomorrow back to Bangkok.
We still have many pics to post and stories to tell, I'm sure we will be continuing to update after we get back home.
We hope you've liked the updates, we have really had fun keeping up with the blog and sharing what will definitely be the trip of a lifetime. Until the next one, of course...
Thanks for all of your comments, 16 weeks on the road can get weary, and we loved hearing posts from back home.
Miss you all,
m&c
